PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello all,

In recent days, the aluminum and steel tariffs announced by the US and Canadian governments (at rates of 10 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively) have received our full attention. To support our SMEs, which will be the first to be impacted by the Canadian government’s countermeasures on steel and aluminum, we have responded to the Canadian Minister of Finance’s invitation to provide our opinion.

TARIFFS ON STEEL AND ALUMINUM
Our ecosystem operates on an international basis. Because supply chains are extremely complex and integrated, an aircraft component can cross borders several times, including those with the United States. Aerospace companies will be affected by both US and Canadian tariffs. The impacts, which are worth millions of dollars, are direct and indirect.

UNVEILING OF 4.0 SKILLS SETS FOR AEROSPACE GUIDE
On June 12, Aéro Montréal, in collaboration with the Conseil emploi métropole, unveiled the Guide at an event attended by nearly 50 people. The event presented the guide as well as the new Québec National Workforce Strategy.
The 4.0 Skills Sets Guide was developed to help educational institutions to adapt their training programs to the future needs of companies. Also, this guide will help equip companies that will be embarking on the 4.0 shift in the coming years.

DEFENCE AND SECURITY WORKING GROUP
Aéro Montréal partners with LSI to facilitate Québec SME access to the American market
Aéro Montréal recently signed an agreement with the American firm LSI. This agreement is part of a pilot project that allows us to identify business opportunities in the US market for 15 companies in Québec’s defence and security sector. Identified business opportunities will be shared on SDQuébec.ca. The agreement with LSI will also enable us to offer webinar sessions in the fall of 2018 to present the US defence and security market and support our companies wishing to expand there.

SPECIAL AEROSPACE SUPPLEMENT IN LES AFFAIRES
On June 14th, the newspaper Les Affaires published a special supplement (paywall - in French only) on the aerospace industry, highlighting three timely subjects: the internationalization of SMEs, the workforce, and disruptive technologies. As part of this issue, we positioned a number of Québec SMEs whose testimonies are in the supplement, namely LibelluleMonde, FDC Composites, MDA and Fusia.
