Hello all,
First of all, I want to underscore the significance of last Friday’s ruling by the International Trade Commission that rejected the imposition of 292% countervailing duties on the CSeries. This ruling confirms that programs to support the aerospace industry and innovation comply with the law. The CSeries aircraft uses many suppliers in Québec, so much of the industry will be able to benefit from potential sales in the American market. Aéro Montréal is working to support the growth of all the companies that make up the cluster and, in this regard, this decision will help promote innovation and the principle of competition for our entire ecosystem.
SME IN THE SPOTLIGHT GROUPE MELOCHE This company recently received a Supplier of the Year Award from Safran Transmission Systems. Don’t miss our exclusive interview (french only) with Hugue Meloche (President and CEO, Groupe Meloche), who talks about the significance of this honour as well as his company’s future investment strategy and the main challenges it faces.
Here is the latest news from our various working groups:
INNOVATION WORKING GROUP
The proposal to develop the second phase of the “Mobility Systems and Technologies for the 21st Century” (“MOST 21”) innovation supercluster was submitted by CAE on November 24 with 265 signatory organizations representing total private investments of $730 million and $138 million from other organizations. Among the letters of commitment submitted, Aéro Montréal proposed programs such as a MACH deployed across Canada, the AeroPortal for enhanced mobility, the “Passion from Within” and “Passion for Flight” programs and, finally, the Accelerator 360 program to spur marketing and consolidation among SMEs. The federal government is expected to announce the winning proposals for the innovation supercluster initiative in the coming weeks. It is important to mention that this proposal submitted by CAE is a team effort led by the industry in collaboration with other stakeholders of our ecosystem, i.e. CRIAQ, CARIC and the secretariat of the cluster.
