PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello everyone,

Here, already, is our last Newsletter of 2016, a year that so nicely marked our 10th anniversary. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the people who stepped forward to offer quality events and promising projects to our members.
Your involvement in our various working groups is essential to consolidating the leadership of Québec’s aerospace sector and ensuring that the sector contributes to growing Québec’s economy. More than ever, our industry is standing out on the national and international stages. In 2017, we will continue our efforts to strengthen our position and enhance the crucial role of our companies, particularly our SMEs.

Financing seminar and holiday networking dinner
I would like to thank you for participating in such numbers in our Financing seminar and Holiday networking dinner on December 12th. We were privileged to have with us Mr. François Blais, Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity and Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, who awarded new MACH performance labels to four companies (CPS industries, DICI Industries, Vestshell and M1 Composites Technology). Mr. Blais also announced $2 million in financial support for the development of projects related to the 5th cohort of the MACH Initiative. See our press release.
Mr. Pierre Gabriel Côté, President-Chief Executive Officer of Investissement Québec, was keynote speaker during the seminar and gave a powerful speech on innovative manufacturing. During the dinner, Mr. Michael Denham, President and Chief Executive Officer of BDC, received a standing ovation from the SMEs present for his presentation on manufacturing productivity.

2017 – Supporting SMEs in the era of 4.0
The year 2017 will be pivotal with, among other things, the shift towards 4.0. – a digital shift that companies will need to take to improve or maintain their position on the international scene. This shift will require certain investments in innovation and equipment, but also a transformation of companies’ business model.
Aéro Montréal’s mission is to support you in every step of your transformation process.
MACH Fab. 4.0
We will implement the MACH Fab 4.0 Initiative with our partners. This initiative will enable 50 SMEs in the aerospace sector to begin their digital shift. The MESI intends to contribute $9.5 million over five years to complete the Initiative, to which will be added an equivalent contribution from the private sector, for a total of $19 million over five years. We will provide you with more details on this new initiative in early 2017.
Montréal International Aerospace Week (April 3-7, 2017)
The 2nd edition of this Week will be devoted to various themes that focus on many of the challenges you are facing on a daily basis: security and defence (April 3); the Global Supply Chain Summit (April 4) to allow you to meet major industry players who have started the shift to 4.0; Aéromart Montréal (April 5 and 6); as well as an event dedicated to the best business practices of the world’s aerospace industrial clusters (April 7).

White Paper – Propelling the talents of aerospace towards Industry 4.0

We have just released our new White Paper on the theme of 4.0. I encourage you to read the paper’s analysis and four main recommendations. These are related to such subjects as “Industry 4.0”; the skills and trades of the future; the impact on training programs; and the attraction and development of talent with a view to meeting company needs.
I’d like to wish you a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you again next year!

Suzanne M. Benoît
