PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello everyone,

First, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage our SMEs to participate in our various working groups, especially the Human Resources Working Group. Your participation is critical to helping us make the issues being tackled by this working group priorities for our industry (contact Marie-Josée Kasparian to indicate your interest: marie-josee.kasparian@aeromontréal.ca/514 987-9347).

A few days ago were participated in consultations regarding the new international policy for Québec. The day consisted of workshops designed to facilitate discussions in a global perspective, including an emphasis on young people. Our goal at Aéro Montréal was to link the issues raised to the challenges that our SMEs will be increasingly called upon to face in the future.

Montréal Civil Aviation Week, which began on September 26, ended yesterday. During the week, ICAO held its 39th triennial assembly while ACI (Airports Council International) marked its 25th anniversary at its global conference. This event was an opportunity to underscore Montréal’s position as a world capital of civil aviation.

Aéro Montréal took advantage of this momentum to hold two very important events, both of which were a great success: the 2016 Gilles-Demers Gala, attended by nearly 250 people, and a case study competition entitled “Towards a 100% recyclable aircraft” which wrapped up at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) on October 1st.

2016 Gilles-Demers Gala: CONGRATULATIONS TO RTI CLARO - SME of the Year in Aerospace!
RTI Claro was recognized for contributing to the expansion of the entire aerospace cluster, both locally and internationally. By working closely with its suppliers to grow its business, as well as that of its partners, the team of Christian Ouimet, General Manager of RTI Claro, won top honours from the jury.

The event also recognized three other SMEs who distinguished themselves in three new categories added this year:
• Creation of wealth and influence: the prize was awarded to GROUP DCM.
• Commitment to innovation: the prize was awarded to OPTIMUM CANADA.
• Business development and internationalization: the prize was awarded to NÉTUR.
See our press release for details and the pictures of the event.

Case study: Towards a 100% recyclable aircraft: CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEAM FROM ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE DE MONTRÉAL for its Cyclair project!
The recycling of aircraft is a critical challenge facing our industry moving forward. The case study competition, launched in early August, culminated with presentations by four finalists at École de technologie supèrieure in a format similar to the TV show “Dragons’ Den.” This event is an excellent example of the leadership being shown by our industry when it comes to environmental stewardship in aerospace. It’s also an exceptional opportunity to raise awareness about this challenge and promote the ingenuity of our youth in the aerospace sector.
Be sure to take a look at the report by TVA and the pictures on the event and our press release.

Suzanne M. Benoît
